Many veterans and widows of veterans are not aware that they may qualify for a pension. The Veterans Administration (VA) Aid & Attendance Pension is unlike disability compensation. There is no requirement that the veteran has a service-connected disability. • The veteran must have served 90 days or more of active duty with at least one day during a period of war as set by Congress.
• The veteran or the widow of the veteran is age 65 or older, OR is permanently disabled (not due to own personal misconduct), OR is a patient in a nursing home receiving skilled nursing care, OR is receiving Social Security Disability benefits.

Along with the above requirements, the income of the veteran and that of the veteran’s spouse is taken into consideration in determining eligibility as well as the veteran’s and the veteran’s spouse’s net worth.
